Dr. Gus J Leotta IIIDouble Board Certified in General Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine
Gus J Leotta III, MD is an Orthopedic Surgeon subspecializing in sports medicine. He completed his orthopedic internship and most of his residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA before deploying to Iraq as a battalion surgeon with the 1st Armored Division and as the medical director of detainee operations in the 101st Airborne Division. Dr. Leotta moved from his last duty station in Heidelberg, Germany to New York City, where he completed his orthopedic residency at SUNY Downstate.
Afterwards, he completed a fellowship in sports medicine at UHZ Sports Medicine Institute in Coral Gables. He specializes in complex knee and shoulder conditions and performs a wide variety of surgeries, from simple arthroscopic procedures to advanced revision shoulder replacements. His practice also includes elbow reconstructions, treatment of hip and wrist fractures and many other orthopedic trauma injuries. Dr. Leotta has served as one of the team physicians for the Florida Panthers NHL hockey team and as the head team physician for Palm Beach Atlantic.
Dr. Leotta believes that in order to treat athletes effectively, it helps to be one. He competes in marathon obstacle course racing. He understands what it means to train, compete, and recover from injuries, and what it takes to get back on the field. He is one of the few surgeons in Palm Beach County with certification from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in both General Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
